Oh yeah, it’s that time of year again where we get to do the really hard (and soft) job of tasting all the best frozen treats in our neighbourhood.
And so, here’s the verdict but don’t take our word for it, try and decide for yourself!
1. La Glace
This French-inspired beauty opened up just near the end of last summer so you may not have discovered it quite yet. La Glace’s interior is in a gorgeous 1920s retro style, all in white, gold, silver, and pastel colours. The house-made ice cream is rich and decadent, with some amazing flavours including Honey Matcha, Lavender Salted Caramel, and Saffron Nougatine. Toppings include wafers, marshmallows, and meringues, all made in-house as well.
For something a little different from the usual cone, try their Avocado Toast Parfait where avocado ice cream tops an organic brioche that’s drizzled in lime caramel and sprinkled with corn nut praline. Or try the Affogato – hot espresso is poured over their Crème de la Crème ice cream and topped with aromatic shavings of Tonka Bean. You can also take home pints of various flavours, and currently, those flavours are the Kalamanzi Sour Cream Sherbert, the Oat & Date Caramel, and the Leche Flan.

Asian-focussed flavours are the highlights at Tangram Creamery including the Hoji Cha, the Green Tea Matcha, and the Sakura, served in delicious house-made cookie cones. Their menu is updated weekly with fresh new flavours and recurrent favourites, and there’s always a vegan and dairy free option as well. Pints to go are available too and their coffee is excellent.

Our neighbourhood favourite, Rain or Shine has branched out a bit with locations at UBC and the Cambia Village now. Flavours tend to change on a monthly basis with some mainstays, however, and ingredients are often seasonal. Some favourites are the Blueberry Balsamic, the Malted Milk Chocolate, and the London Fog. Sundaes, milkshakes, and ice cream tacos are part of the regular menu too.
