A redevelopment proposal with new rental housing has been submitted for Kitsilano’s St. Marks Anglican Church.
The 100-year-old church was put up for sale one year ago for $12 million.
Located at the corner of West 2nd Avenue and Larch Street, St. Mark’s stopped serving Anglican congregations five years ago and has relied on rental income from community groups. It’s currently leased with a Montessori school and a parish.
According to UrbanYVR, Metric Architecture has submitted a rezoning application to turn the church site at 1805 Larch Street into a five-storey building with 63 secured rental units under the city’s Moderate Income Rental Housing Pilot Program (MIRHPP).
Under the MIRHPP, at least 20% of the rental housing floor area must be set aside for moderate income households, defined as those earning between $30,000 and $80,000 per year.
The unit mix is 19 studios, 16 one-bedroom units, 20 two-bedroom units, and eight three-bedroom units. Residents will have access to amenities such as a rooftop patio.
