Concerned residents, housing advocates, and renters will gather at Vancouver City Hall on Saturday, November 23rd, at 1pm for the Pause the Plan! rally, voicing growing unease over the Broadway Plan’s sweeping impacts.
The rally, held at Helena Gutteridge Plaza, aims to push city officials to reassess the controversial redevelopment blueprint.
The Broadway Plan, adopted in June 2022 and effective since September of that year, targets 500 blocks from 1st to 16th Avenues and Clark to Vine with over 120 high-rise projects already in the pipeline.
Critics like Michael Geller argue the plan prioritizes luxury towers over urgently needed affordable housing, threatening existing rental homes and displacing tenants.
“Rezoning signs are appearing like mushrooms,” say rally organizers, warning of 18- to 20-story towers disrupting quiet residential streets far from transit hubs. Concerns extend to tenant demovictions, speculative developments, and a potential extension of the plan west to UBC.
Speakers at the event include renters facing eviction, youth advocates, and urban planning experts.

I’m very concerned that this decision was made without proper procedure. This 30 year plan totally changing the City of Vancouver was approved by a city council??!! How about a referendum!
