Fireworks start this week

Only a couple more days before the skies over English Bay are lit up with fireworks. Canada goes first when the HSBC Celebration of Light kicks off on Wednesday night.

Canada is defending champion, thanks to the Godzilla-themed show.  This year they’re bringing you to the land of Oz, with their take on the classic Wizard of Oz story they’re calling No Place Like Home.  Team Canada’s performance will be followed by efforts from South Africa, the U.K. and China.  This year there will be no grand finale but rather four countries displaying their works.

The show starts at 10 pm – rain or shine – and your best views can be found at English Bay, Vanier Park, Jericho Beach, and of course, Kitsilano.  Just like last year, you can vote for your favorite by texting LIGHT to 100100.

As always, Kits Point will be inaccessible by car starting at 6pm each competition night.

  1. If you can stand the chaos one of the better views is from a boat.
