While not officially in Kitsilano, Granville Island has been an important neighbour for 25 years and we’re all thankful of its proximity to Kits. To protect Granville Island’s unique character and to ensure its long-term viability, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation initiated the Island Insight project and now they’re ready for the public to Speak Up!
Granville Island—it’s an experience like no other. This exciting blend of art galleries, schools, studios, theatres, restaurants and shops is beloved by locals and by visitors from all over the world. It’s a winning combination, and no-one wants to see that change. But changing nothing and doing nothing are two different things. The Island’s infrastructure and layout is now 25 years old, and it’s time for a tune-up.
Think of your own home; it may be perfect when you move in. But over time, as a responsible home owner, you might fix the roof, upgrade the wiring or refresh the paint. It’s the right thing to do. It’s the same for Granville Island. But the Island is a “home” that millions of people share. Before we make any plans, we need to hear from them. We need to hear from YOU.
So please, Speak Up! Whether you’re a Granville Island tenant or employee, local resident, frequent visitor, or a tourist from half a world away, you are part of this vibrant community. And we invite you to contribute your ideas on how to keep Granville Island great.
