This Wednesday, April 7 from 6 to 9 pm, the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House will host an Earth Day celebration with a potluck and a free screening of full-length documentary film No Impact Man. The whole neighbourhood is invited to show up with a vegetarian dish and even some movie snacks to share.

The No Impact Man synopsis:

The No Impact Project (NIP) was conceived by Colin Beavan, aka No Impact Man, following the success of his blog, book, and film, which chronicle his family’s year-long experiment living a zero-waste lifestyle in New York City. A newly self-proclaimed environmentalist who could no long avoid pointing the finger at himself, Colin leaves behind his liberal complacency for a vow to make as little environmental impact as possible for one year. No more automated transportation, no more electricity, no more non-local food, no more material consumption, no problem. That is, until his espresso-guzzling, retail-worshipping wife Michelle and their two year-old daughter are dragged into the fray. This film provides an intriguing inside look at the familial strains and strengthened bonds that result from Colin’s and Michelle’s struggle with their radical lifestyle change.

After the movie, the Neighbourhood House organizers will also share information about the Energy Conservation Assistance Program which supports low-income residents in getting a free home energy evaluation, installation of energy-saving products,  education on how to reduce consumption & save on bills.
