The Globe and Mail’s Kerry Gold reported yesterday that Heritage Vancouver has released its annual list of the city’s top 10 endangered sites. The list is the group’s biggest publicity tool to raise awareness about landmark sites and overlooked gems that are being targeted for demolition or dubious renovation. At the top of the list is the iconic art deco Burrard Bridge which has earned a spot on the list for the past six years because the city is pushing to overhaul its look with outer bike lanes, known as outriggers. These historical photos (scroll down) are definitely worth a look – hard to believe that it was once two lanes (one each way) and parking wasn’t prohibited.

It’s hard to think of our beloved Burrard Bridge (my personal favourite in Vancouver) being truly endangered, given the amount of work sunk into seismic upgrades over the last 2 years. However, the waffling and stalling over choosing an upgrade path has been embarrassing.
