Reminder for Vigilance

The Vancouver Sun, along with various other news sources, report today that a 12 year old girl averted an abduction yesterday afternoon near Henry Hudson Elementary by doing the right thing:

The girl was walking west in the 2100 block of west Second Avenue when a man grabbed her wrist from behind. She turned around and swung her umbrella at the man’s head, which caused him to run off to his van. […]

[Const. Tim] Fanning described the attacker as white, 35 to 40 years old, about six-foot-one and 190 pounds. Other details: “He had straight, dark, thick shoulder-length hair. He was wearing a black and red vest, along with a long-sleeved beige shirt and light-coloured blue jeans. He was driving a newer, dark-blue family passenger-style van. The vehicle was described as being shiny and the rear side and back windows had dark tint.”

A worrying event and a stark reminder to be vigilant.
