Abigail's Party

I was out in Kits last week with some friends after a long day of work and was looking for a good place to grab a late dinner. It just so happened that it was after 10pm. Apparently finding a good meal in Kits after 10pm is harder than you think. Most of the hot spots had either closed their kitchen or limited their menu. We weren’t in the mood for fast food. Then one of my friend’s had a great suggestion… Abigail’s Party.

I must admit, I hadn’t been to Abigail’s Party in ages. They have always had great brunch on a lazy Sunday, but I had almost forgotten about it entirely as a dinner and drinks place. Turns out, I had been missing out. With a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, solid wine and cocktail list, and, most importantly, full menu service until 2am everyday of the weekend, Abigail’s Party is officially the best late night eatery in Kits.

Being a wine guy myself, my first glance once inside was at the wine list. Feeling adventurous, I decided to take the server’s recommendation. To my surprise, the server sounded like she had actually tried the wines herself. She suggested a 2004 Cotes du Ventoux that was silky smooth. My friends went the cocktail route. Their favourites were the Bourbon Sour, The Gin Mule and, the oh so perfect for late night dining Abigail’s pick-me-up (a delicious blend of Van Gogh espresso vodka, Bailey’s, Kahlua and espresso).

Turning out very hungry eyes to the menu, we were pleasantly surprised with some solid options. We started with the Seared Albacore Tuna with Salsa Verde, which was delicious, and the Cashews roasted with chiles and sea salt, which hit the spot but were somewhat uninspiring. From there, we had a round of Chorizo Sliders and Baby Back Ribs. The whole table loved both of them. Healthy? No. Yummy? Yes!

For dinner, we had an order of Abigail’s Fish Tacos, Pappardelle Pasta with Lamb Ragu and Braised Bison Short Rib Sloppy Joe. The fish tacos were mine and probably the best fish tacos I have had outside of Mexico. Flavourful without the grease… I would order them again in a heartbeat. The lamb pasta looked outstanding and my friend raved about it. Might have to try that next time. The sloppy joe’s? Well… I think he was jealous of what we ordered!

All in all, we had a great night with good food and drinks. The atmosphere improved the evening and the service, although not fabulous, didn’t detract from it. If you are looking for late night eats, this is the place.

I think once you start to put superlatives on Abigail’s Party it will start to win them all.
Best late night spot in Kits, best brunch in Kits, prettiest waitress in Kits (well maybe tied, my opinion anyways).

I’d have to disagree with the review on abigails party, although the late night opening might be true… The service at abigails is absolutely atrocious but dont believe me take a look at these 27 reviews and form your own opinion.

I used to LOVE Abagails – it was my go to breakfast joint but I had the WORST experience this morning and sad to say at least for brunch this place is not what it used to be. Sad:(

I had a terrible customer service experience at Abigails a few weeks ago. I showed up for weekend brunch at 9am (their stated opening time), walked in to music that was pumping out like a nightclub, no one paying me any attention. Finally a server walked over and looked at me like she had no idea why I was there. I asked if they were open, she looked irritated and said “10 more minutes”. She then ushered me out and locked the door behind me. Perhaps she could have shown me a table and offered me a coffee and a menu? Needless to say I didn’t go back in 10 minutes, nor will I ever.
