Last year we asked for your ‘Best of Kitsilano’ for 2009 in a 20 question survey at the end of the year.

For 2010 we’re mixing it up and running individual polls over the next ten days covering everything from Kitsilano’s Best Japanese Food to Kitsilano’s best Burger Joint. Today we start with the Best Coffee Shop in Kitsilano and this poll will be open for seven days. Vote away.

  1. Justin Everett says:

Elysian is most definitely not in Kitsilano.

  2. Heinz says:

As much as I enjoy the coffee at 49th, I wouldn’t call it the best coffee shop per se. The location suffers (not proximity, just not on a quiet block), it’s a tad narrow and claustrophobic for my tastes, and, well, let’s face it, it’s been something of a yuppiteria since day 1 (when in recorded history has there not been a small armada of Land Rovers parked out front?).

My vote’s on Wired Monk for best combo of solid coffee, relaxing ambience (quiet terrace on Trafalgar), diversity of clientele, and after hours entertainment

    Heinz

    VIVA!!!!
On Yew Street just before Cornwall
Can’t BELIEVE they were missed as a contender!
They have the most amazing service, the quality of their products is great, and the atmosphere is so warm and inviting- such a great sense of community when I walk in there.

  4. Alyson says:

    VIVA for sure

  5. Jody says:

Viva VIVA! It’s never too late to add them to the voting list.

  6. Rob says:

@Justin – Eysian is at the corner of West 5th and Burrard Street – so it just qualifies as being in Kitsilano.

@Everyone else – VIVA is now on the list of contenders – Vote away!

  7. CheekyMonkey says:

I agree VIVA is the best coffee shop in Kits. Can’t get enough of their mixed berry scones sprinkled with cinamon sugar on top.

I much prefer having my 49th Parrallel coffee at Viva in a warm, friendly vibe where food is freshly coked rather than be jammed between all that uppityness and ‘I-am-too-too-blah-to-serve-you’ attitude at 49th Parrellel.

And, being a stone’s throw from the beach is a bonus.

  8. Brigitte says:

@Justin Everett: There is an Elysian coffee shop at 5th and Burrard.

  9. Mike Jones says:

I adore Viva, they have the best sandwiches in Kits (but I’d love for other contenders).

  10. Alexis says:

Viva has the best hot chocolate hands down…

  11. Angie says:

49th and Elysian have the best coffee, but I voted for Viva as it has good coffee plus excellent breakfasts, muffins (blueberry bran!!), and sandwiches. If I could only go to one, it would be there. Love getting breakfast there in the summer and sitting on the patio while people-watching.

  12. I am a regular and left Starbucks in the dust over three years ago. Viva’s hands down. If you believe in the “westside” lifestyle and take notice when people appreciate your business, this place is for you. Great products and great service.
