A New Liquor Store in Kitsilano

1932

Less than 2 months after I personally moved kits addresses, the city must have got my new address memo and poof – a new liquor store is now my neighbour!

Just on the border of the official Kitsilano line located on the corner of Burrard Street and West 8th Ave, Burrard Liquor Store popped the champagne, chilled the 6-packs and opened their door last week.

The convenient new spot sells wine, spirits, beers and some speciality products 7 days a week from 9am to 11pm. We picked up some beer there recently to check out the prices and they are a bit above the government liquor store a few blocks away at Broadway and Maple but is on par with Bimini’s on 4th.

Just in time to stock up your fridge for Superbowl Sunday, I’ll raise a glass to this new Kits neighbour.

Update: Thanks to Avo for the photo.

Gotta love an article about a new store, which doesn’t mention an address or even cross street!

The article specifically mentions that the store is at Burrard and West 8th. It\’s the former location of Minuteman Press; here\’s a link to Google Streetview: google.ca/maps?cbp=13,300,,0,7&cbll=49.2644,-123.1457&layer=c

Those places always charge too much-so much for free enterprise.

So much for free enterprise, indeed. It is sad that the independents are largely hamstrung by the government. Independents pay nearly as much for ‘wholesale’ as would be charged off the shelf at a govt store. The best they can do is to try to add value by measures such as having cold ones on hand, opening for longer hours, or perhaps offering products that are not available at govt stores. Me, I got sick of the govt always having their hand in my pocket, so I now homebrew.

Just a heads up, this store only accepts empty returns between 10 am and 12 pm Monday to Friday. You know, when pretty much everyone is at work. Thanks guys!

@Anonymous Clearly a policy that is meant to keep the dumpster divers OUT of the store at peak hours. Major FAIL for those regular customers who do such errands on Saturdays though!
