Premier-Designate Christy Clark

With Christy Clark becoming the Liberal leader and premier designate last week, it was only a matter of time until the media starting asking still Premier Gordon Campbell if he would give up his Vancouver-Point Grey seat for Clark.

The general consensus seems to be that Clark would have no problem winning in a by-election in Campbell’s riding when it happens in the the late spring or early summer.

According the the Vancouver Sun, Campbell said he met Clark briefly on the weekend but will speak to her again soon about her plans for the future.

“I will talk with Christy about what she thinks is best for the party and I will follow through on what her recommendations are,” he said. “If she wants to run in Vancouver-Point Grey, I will be glad to step aside to let her run in Vancouver-Point Grey.” Asked if he thought voters in the riding would accept her, he said yes. “I think they would welcome her and I think she would win the riding.”

While Clark lives elsewhere in Vancouver, her son Hamish attends school within the riding. And Clark seems to think Kitsilano will be friendly to her at the polls thanks to board work with the Kits Neighbourhood House.

Will you vote for Clark in the next Vancouver-Point Grey by-election?

I would not vote for her.

It’s nothing personal against her or her qualifications, I just don’t think the BC Liberals are taking this province in a good direction. While I think Clark was the best of their choices, I don’t think she’s going to go far enough for this province.

Wouldn’t the best person to represent us actually _live_ here?

Is sending your son to West Point Grey Academy (I’m guessing here, but it’s not exactly a stretch) give you any idea what matters to people in Kitsilano and Point Grey.

Does she know which stores are closing and opening? Does she know anything about the bus routes? Our libraries? Our farmers market? You can’t represent it unless you live it.

  3. Sarah says:

I agree with Graham on this one. Christy comes across as an opportunist. Remember when she dropped provincial politics in favor of an NPA nomination to run for Mayor of Vancouver. She thought she could run circles around Sam Sullivan but he ended up beating her out.

  4. Cathy says:

Unless you live in my riding don’t pretend to represent me. The fact that her son goes to a private school in the riding is a ridiculous stretch.

  5. mary says:

No I would not vote for her, I agree she is a career politician/opportunist, her real interest is her personal advancement. The well-being of our community is irrelevant to her.

  6. Anne says:

No way – opportunist of the worst sort. She said today that her first order of business will be to ensure that oil tankers will be allowed to use the inside passage. The woman is an idiot and has no understanding of what people (other than lobbyists) want.

I’m shocked and appalled that the long time tradition of accepting parachute candidates has fallen out of favour-have the barbarians breached the gates?

  8. Brighton says:

Never vote for people that do not live here. She should wait until next election in 2013. Gordon Campbell lived here and should stay as MLA. Kevin Falcon was a better choice for leader. It was really stupid by BC Liberals pick someone that is not an mla.

  9. HOMER says:

Gordon Campbell can’t lead forever we all love Campbell but Christy Clark was the best way to represent the B.C Liberals and take over, I would definitely vote for her and It’s not your business what school her son attends.

  10. Rob says:

No, I will not vote for Christy Clark. She does not represent a change from the arrogance, which the B.C. Liberals have demonstrated over the past number of years. As for their their ability as managers, I can only wonder how anyone can take that seriously. Taking away parking meters in the parks is not a solution to the rampant destruction taking place due to lumber poaching. Promoting salmon farming doesn’t help the restoration of wild salmon stocks. Allowing tanker traffic will only lead to the destruction of the North Pacific coast. Maybe i should insert a spread sheet listing the reasons for not voting for Christy Clark.

Not a chance…I say NO to BS, no to oil rigs off the coast, no more spills, no more cover-ups.
