Chewie’s Steam & Oyster Bar to open at Kits beach

The best blog posts are on restaurant openings in Kits and foodies will be stoked about this one. Last October, we wrote about Karv closing at W. First Avenue and Yew Street. That was sad. Happily, however, we now know what will fill the fairly large hole.

Richard “Chewie” Chew, formerly the chef at Rodney’s Oyster House in Yaletown, has acquired the permits for the 2,300 sq. ft. space at 2201 Yew Street and plans to begin renovations shortly. He’s calling his new restaurant “Chewie’s Steam & Oyster Bar.” The bivalve guru describes it as a “Cajun/Creole-inspired oyster and steam bar.”

Chewie told Scout’s Andrew Morrison that he’ll be open by the end of summer. That sounds like September to me. Chef Owen Lightly of Butter On The Endive (previously of Araxi) is handling the menu.

    Great news.

I will be there everynight I can.
Hopefully oysters will be offered ‘after service’ so all of us at Kits Daily can walk over.

A neighbourhood can never have enough oyster/raw bars – and the pedigree here is brilliant.

It looks like renos to this place are almost complete. I can’t wait to check it out!
