Vancouver didn’t exactly have beach weather this past weekend.
But, of course, that didn’t stop professional beach volleyball players from going after the Vancouver Open‘s $3,300 top prizes this past weekend.
Thirty-two teams competed on Kitsilano Beach on Saturday and Sunday (July 16 and 17), following a qualifying tournament on Friday (July 15).
When the sand settled, Christal Engle and Erin Gray of California had won the women’s gold.
The B.C.-Ontario team of Maverick Hatch and Sam Schachter bumped, set, and spiked their way to the men’s gold in what was the Vancouver Open’s 20th-anniversary event.
