National/Alamo Broadway Location Closed

National Car RentalOne of the perks of having twins is that you don’t have to feel guilty about not traveling to see relatives; they come to see you. The downside of this scenario is that we’re often left to organize things like accommodation, and finding things to do around town. As I mentioned in an earlier post, finding accommodation close by is no longer an issue thanks to Make Yourself at Home.

One of the things I started looking into for an upcoming visit is car rentals, as having three kids pretty much fills up any car to capacity. Well, car rental options in and around Kits are dwindling. First, Budget Rent A Car gave way to First on First. (It is not often that one can start and finish a sentence with the same word, is it?) And a few weeks ago, National Car Rental/Alamo closed its West Broadway location (1754 @ Burrard). This is too bad as it’s in walking distance from us and we’ve used this location a couple of times.

It would appear that most rental companies are focusing on downtown and the airport. I guess this makes sense given the rise of car sharing programs like Zipcar and CAN. The only rental place that I could find that is close to Kits is the Enterprise location on West 1st (1696 @ Pine).

I have to say it is a real shame to see them go. They always had great rates, and I loved the staff in there. Plus the walking distance factor. I rented many a cars from there. Now like you said we are down to the Enterprise down on 1st, or a bus ride to the Alamo on Broadway.

There’s also http://www.bestpricerentacar.ca/ 1360 W4th back of the building facing Hemlock, almost Kits.

Haven’t used them yet but seeing as how often Enterprise is running out of cars this busy summer it won’t be long before I do.

The Avis location at Laurel and Broadway has often provided good service and rates.
